About Daily Picross
Picross (also called nonogram, griddler or hanjie) is a picture logic puzzle. Number clues beside each row and above each column tell you which cells to fill, and the filled cells form a picture. Play a free daily picross puzzle here, or practice unlimited grids.
Every day there is a new 10×10 daily puzzle, created from the date so everyone who plays that day gets the same picture and can compare times. Outside the daily puzzle you can play as many puzzles as you like in three sizes: Mini 5×5 for learning, 10×10 for a standard solve and 15×15 when you want a longer challenge.
Before a puzzle is shown, our solver works through it one line at a time, the way a person would. A puzzle is only used if that line-by-line logic completes the whole grid, which means every puzzle has a single answer and you never need to guess. The pictures are abstract, often symmetrical shapes rather than drawings – part of the fun is seeing what appears.
How to Play Daily Picross
- Read a clue: "3 1" means a block of three filled cells, then at least one empty cell, then a single filled cell – in that order.
- Choose Fill and tap or drag across cells you are sure are filled. Choose Mark (✕) – or right-click – for cells you know are empty.
- Clues turn grey when the line matches them, so you can see which lines are finished.
- Keep alternating between rows and columns. When every line matches its clues, the puzzle is solved and the clock stops.
- Keyboard: arrow keys move, Space or F fills, X marks, Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes.
Nonogram Rules
- Each number is the length of an unbroken run of filled cells in that row or column.
- Runs appear in the same order as the numbers (left to right for rows, top to bottom for columns).
- Between two runs there is at least one empty cell.
- A puzzle is solved when every row and column matches its clues. ✕ marks are just notes and do not need to be complete.
Scoring and Daily Results
Your score is your solving time. There are no lives and no penalties for mistakes – you can undo or clear at any time – so the fastest way to a good time is careful, certain moves.
The game stores your best time for each size and remembers that you solved today's daily puzzle. Copy your result to share it without spoiling the picture.
Daily Picross Tips & Tricks
- Start with big numbers. In a 10-cell row, a clue of 7 must cover the middle four cells wherever it sits – fill the overlap.
- Add up a clue: "4 3 2" needs 4+3+2 plus two gaps = 11 cells, so in a row of 11 it is fully determined.
- Use ✕ marks generously. An empty cell is information, and it often decides the next column.
- Finished lines (grey clues) can be filled with ✕ in their remaining cells.
- When stuck, look for a line where one of the clue blocks can only fit in one place because of cells you already marked.
- On 15×15 puzzles, the thicker lines every five cells make counting much easier.
Daily Picross FAQ
What is a nonogram?
A logic puzzle where number clues describe the filled cells in each row and column. Solving it reveals a picture. It is also known as a griddler, hanjie or paint by numbers.
Do I ever have to guess?

What size should a beginner start with?
